| Subject: | KS3 Art and Design |
| Subject Overview: In KS3 at Kepier, learners follow a programme of study that builds skills, understanding and knowledge in a wide range of art forms including drawing, developing use of colour, painting, crafts and ceramic work, as well as looking at existing art from a wide range of sources. Artists that are explored within the curriculum are rich and diverse, celebrating artists of colour, gender, age, cultural and geographical backgrounds. Students will understand the formal elements of art and will be able to confidently discuss their reference to a wide range of different art forms and their own practical outcomes. Throughout Year 7, 8 and 9 the curriculum continues to develop students’ understanding of the formal elements of art and gives students the opportunity to develop skills with a range of different materials. Topics/themes are revisited at different stages of each academic year to allow students to explore more challenging work as their skills grow and they become more competent with their own ability and use of materials. This gives the students an excellent grounding in the understanding of art, its properties and materials, which in turn will enable them to be prepared at KS4 for GCSE. |
